Door handles, especially in areas such as bathrooms, kitchens, or building entrances, collect more germs than bedroom doors and cleaning them is more difficult because of their plating and appearance. Even if a door handle is completely hygienic, it appears dirty and conveys the feeling of a dirty door or home. To clean a door handle properly and prevent scratching or damaging its plating, it is necessary to use the right materials and method. You can clean your door handle as follows:
- Determine the type of plating on your door handle.
Door handles with different platings, if the general cleaning method does not work, must be cleaned in their own special ways; for example, special methods used for chrome plating will not be effective for other platings. Here, the general method of cleaning a door handle with any plating is described.
- Mix about half a liter of warm water with one or two tablespoons of dishwashing liquid in a small bowl.
- Soak a cloth in this solution and gently rub the surface of the door handle, especially its base and rosette.
- Dip an old toothbrush in sweetened boiling water.
- Use this toothbrush to clean areas where mineral deposits from water are present.
Add a few drops of water to the toothbrush if needed.
- Use a 30-centimeter dental floss to clean areas such as gaps and under the handle where access is limited.
- Rinse the door handle with clean, cold water.
- Finally, dry the door handle with a dry cotton cloth and polish it.
- Under no circumstances should you clean the door handle with acidic substances, glass cleaners, laundry detergents, grease removers, etc.
